This week, schools across the country are finishing up for summer and mentors are delivering final reflection sessions with their mentees. This school year has looked very different to others and Physics Mentoring has adapted to new ways of working across the board. It has not been easy, but it has been extremely rewarding.
I want to pass on my congratulations to all mentees, but also the school staff and mentors who have worked hard to facilitate mentoring in schools across Wales. Everyone has faced new experiences with an open mind and undeniable enthusiasm. I hope that everyone on the project has learnt new and eye-opening things about themselves and physics – I know that I have!
The mentors have also been reflecting on their time with their mentees and telling us about their mentoring sessions, which you can see in this video. I’m also delighted to be able to pass on the congratulations of Jeremy Miles MS, Minister for Education and Welsh Language, who has passed on his thanks to the participants of the project and recognition of their efforts in a statement that you can can read here.
Alongside the fantastic work of the teachers, mentors and mentees, I am grateful for the efforts of the project’s university contacts, the steering group, all our external training staff and the rest of the project team. I look forward to expanding our reach into more schools across Wales in the coming academic year, but first I think I’ll have a rest over summer!
